P+M#11 Interview : September Girls

September Girls

Q1. Please Introduce Yourself.
Hello, I’m Paula and I play the E string on the bass guitar in September Girls.

Q2. How did you start this band?
Ireland is a small place and we were friends anyways while in different bands. When those bands fizzled out we started playing music together but found we were a bit lost in finding our sound. I had met Sarah our drummer while in another band and we basically poached her for ourselves and she turned out to be the missing puzzle piece.

Q3. Who is the artist from whom you were influenced?
That’s a tough question as with five personalities we each have different inspiration. There’s no doubt that a few of us would be hugely inspired by girl groups of the 60s and the whole wall-of-sound, but we’d also be fans of post punk as well as a lot of 90s groups as that’s what we grew up devouring. Our influences collectively include The Cure, Beach Boys, Jesus & Mary Chain, They Might Be Giants, My Bloody Valentine, The Ronettes, The Bangles etc etc.

Q4. What are you just doing?
We all currently work in day jobs, I work in a record shop. Right now, we have just recorded a b-side for the 3rd 7″ single we’ll be releasing later this year with Art For Blind records in Cork, Ireland. We usually record in our own practise studio with a friend of ours, saves us a lot of money!

Q5. What do you value most in music life?
I think having people actually turn up to your shows is pretty good.

Q6. What was the first tape, record or CD you bought for yourself and when?
Myself and my brother went halves on “Out Of Time” by REM on cassette when it came out.

Q7. What is most favorite music now?
I’ve been listening to The Pandoras “Its About Time” on repeat for quite a while now. New music wise – i like Orca Team from Seattle (we played a couple of shows with them last summer, and they blew me away), PINS from Manchester, and The #1s from Dublin.

Q8. What is the dream in the future?
I’d be happy if we got an album recorded in the not too distant future!

Q9. Please Message to readers.

The Cure、Beach Boys、Jesus & Mary Chain、They Might Be Giants、My Bloody Valentine、The Ronettes、The Bangles などね。
